MAURICE  KOUGUELL  Ph.D. 
 

Dr. Kouguell is the founder and Director of the Brookside Center for Counseling and Hypnotherapy in Baldwin, New York. He holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and a Doctorate in  Clinical Hypnotherapy.  He completed his undergraduate as well as his graduate studies at the City College of New York and did  his post graduate work at Teachers College, Columbia University in the Department of Family Life. Dr.  Kouguell is past president of Kappa Delta Pi  honor society. Dr. Kouguell holds a Licence de Concert from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. He is the recipient of the French National Baccalaureat and was awarded a diploma from the American University of Beirut majoring in philosophy and science.

His training includes an internship and residency in Clinical Psychology at the Northside Center for Child Development in NY, and an internship in Family Life at the Teachers College, Columbia University. As a psychologist, he has worked in hospitals and various outpatient clinics. 

In his career as a school psychologist , he introduced the following programs:  Individual Discussion Groups  with parents, teachers, and students. Those were followed by all the participants meeting together.  He was also responsible for establishing  the following programs in the schools: crisis counseling program a suicide prevention center, for which he trained both volunteer students and teachers.  He also pioneered a big brother-big sister mentorship program where potential high school drop-out students tutored elementary students .The success of the program made it exemplary for other schools to follow.

Dr.  Kouguell  served on the Faculties of the City College of New York, Teachers College -Columbia University, Molloy College - and supervised doctoral candidates in clinical practices at Adelphi, Hofstra and St. John’s Universities in the New York area. While trained in traditional approaches to clinical practices, he has expanded his knowledge through  his training in Hypnotherapy, Guided Imagery, Neurolinguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy,  Touch for Health , Focusing, Emotional  Freedom Techniques, Shamanism et al.

Dr.  Kouguell  holds certifications from most of the prestigious organizations  including the International Medical and Dental Association, the National Guild of Hypnotists, and he is a Fellow of both the American Association of Professional Hypnotherapists and of the National Board for Hypnotherapy and Hypnotic Anaesthesiology. He also holds certification in the following:  Behavior Therapist, Master Addiction Counselor and Forensic Criminal Justice Specialist. 
Dr. Kouguell’s internship and training program at the Brookside Center for Counseling and Hypnotherapy has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence. He is a Diplomate and Certified member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and member of the Academy of Medical Hypnoanalysts. 

Dr.  Kouguell  is the author of three texts which have been adopted  in graduate schools as well as in health related facilities. His text DAPTH@ ACCESSING THE UNCONSCIOUS IN THE PRACTICE OF HYPNOSIS AND COUNSELING will soon be available in German. 
He is a regular contributor to the Journal of Hypnotism, The Long Island Parent Magazine and the HypnoFlash.

Dr.  Kouguell is the Dean of the School of General Psychology which includes Counseling Psychology and Family Life Communication at Westbrook University. He is the originator of Intuitive Hypnotherapy

Dr.  Kouguell maintains a private practice and lectures extensively. He is fluent in French and Russian and continues his professional appearances as a concert  violist.
