..."Interactive Self-Hypnosis"

Question and Answer Column

There are tremendous benefits awaiting the individual who learns to utilize "interactive self-hypnosis." I coined this phrase for educating my students and clients about using self-hypnotic technique in the moment. Once one learns and practices these techniques, it is like having a toolbox at your side, filled with anything or everything you might need to change course towards your goals. While many of us do this consciously, once you train your subconscious mind to work in your behalf, you find this can be done rather effortlessly.

Let me give you an example. I happen to be addicted to sugar, and other high-glycemic carbohydrate foods. Shopping in the supermarket can be a misery for me, but I happen to have an inner helper who happens to be my size 8 jeans. The jeans do the shopping, and when I start feeling pulled towards "danger foods" for me, the jeans take over. Now, as silly as this sounds, it not only works, but I am continually amused by the way it works. The other day someone was offering donuts at work, and rather insisting that everyone take one. Out of nowhere came my jeans, ushering me back into my office. I found myself simply saying, "Thank you, but I don't eat sugar", and before I knew it I was back at my desk.

I utilize "interactive self-hypnosis" most of the day. I write from the alpha state, and when I need new ideas, or suggestions for an article, marketing, improving a relationship, or just about anything, I request that information or help from the subconscious librarian. I tell her my needs, and ask for her own suggestions as well. Sometimes she has questions for me, which is the mind's need for more focused input. She often makes it clear to me that if I expect to get material back, I had better be in a receptive mind state to receive it, meaning relaxed and open, free of mind/body stress build-up.

I welcome your participation in this exciting way to utilize the power of your mind and body. I look forward to your comments and questions.
