What are Imprints?
By Bob Barnick, CHT

Imprints are deep suggestions that are left in the subconscious mind that make a lasting impression that affects the psychological and/or physical well being of a person. The subconscious takes everything literally. Comments are made which can change our lives. It can be a comment made by a significant person in one’s life.. .a parent when we are young, a surgeon during an operation (our subconscious hears even though we are unconscious), or a casual comment in a doctor’s office (where we are emotional and therefor suggestible).

Here are some examples:

A child hears, “You can’t do anything right”... “How can you be so dumb9  “How do you expect to amount to anything when you can’t even “. Is it any wonder this child had learning problems and an inferiority complex?

A surgeon says, “you’ll have to learn to live with it”. The subconscious interprets that as: “If I don’t have it I will die”. Comments made during surgery are heard by the subconscious. If a surgeon says, “Let’s sew him up and get out of here’, the subconscious may read “They are leaving me to die” or if in surgery they say “Boy this one is malignant” the subconscious can take it as a death warrant.

If a small child is locked in a dark closet as punishment, they may become claustrophobic.

I had a client/friend that got sick every time he ate shrimp. We discovered he had an imprint caused by eating shrimp, shells and all, the first time he ate shrimp. This caused an embarrassment that caused him to be sick each time he ate them. When we discovered this fact, he relished shrimp and never become sick again.

I had a friend who could not sleep at night. It started after her mother died. I found that her mother died while she was at her mother’s bedside and went to sleep. When she awoke, her mother was dead. When we explained that she needn’t feel guilt over that, and that it wasn’t her fault, she was able to sleep quite well again.

No doubt we all have imprints on our subconscious mind from incidents that have happened in our earlier lives and some are occurring to us even though we are mature adults.
